Commentary September, 2001 What the world needs most is another e-zine, right? Then why have we started New York Stringer? Mostly because a group of extraordinarily opinionated people needed an outlet for their musings. And for the fun of it (and the review tickets and free admissions to cultural events don't hurt, either). We hope to amuse you, make you angry, inform you, and alarm you. We hope you will be comforted to find people who think as you do about an issue, and discomforted by those who don't. Our articles will cover art, music, dance, theater, politics, computers and communications, and issues of modern life. Viewpoints of correspondents from the East coast, the West coast, middle America, Australia and Europe will be presented. If you have something to say, e‑mail us a tightly-written article and it might well appear here: we want an open forum. We have no corporate viewpoint, culturally or politically: each of our correspondents has his or her individual viewpoint and is prepared to share it and defend it. We intend to be a monthly publication. Frankly, greater frequency would make us work too hard: lesser frequency would make you forget we exist. We don't intend to settle the question of whether we mean a lunar month, a solar month or an international geophysical month anytime soon. Urgent world or local events might propel us to bring out a special edition, however. So settle in and enjoy our first issue. A printed Issue #1 is available for the asking, suitable for squirreling away as a future collector's item. (Don't you wish you had saved Superman #1?)
